The Greater Flint Area Knights of Columbus Male Chorus
was established in 1964 as a recreational arm of Council #695 K of C Flint. During subsequent years, membership in the "Singing Knights" was opened to any Knights of Columbus member from the Flint area. The membership today represents Michigan K of C councils in Burton, Caro, Davison, Flint, Flushing, Gaines, Grand Blanc, Mt. Morris, North Branch, Ortonville, and Swartz Creek.
The "Michigan Singing Knights" chorus is a member of the Great Lakes Male Chorus Association and participates in mass concerts with the other members of GLMCA at the annual "Big Sing". This year's 2018 Big Sing was hosted by the Gentleman Songsters. The concert was Saturday, June 4, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. at the Fraser Center for the Performing Arts, Fraser High School, Fraser, MI. It was a great success !
The group has performed for many functions of the Knights of Columbus in Michigan such as K of C night at Tiger Stadium, Cobo Hall for the International K of C convention and the state convention on Mackinac Island. The Singing Knights have also been privileged to sing at Catholic Mass in many cathedrals and churches in the state. In 1982, the group traveled to Washington, D.C., to sing at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception Cathedral in honor of the 100th anniversary of the Knights of Columbus. While there, it also performed at various Washington veterans hospitals. The chorus has also performed in Minneapolis, Minnesota, with the only other known K of C male chorus in America. This year the group held its 34th annual Spring Show and Dinner Dance on May 21st, a show that has sold out every performance for the past twenty years. In 2019 we will be celebrating our 55th year as a male chorus.
